5 Database Utilities

Introduction

The Eloquence DBMS utilities create, initialize, and purge database files and perform various maintenance operations. The utilities consist of Eloquence commands, in addition to external programs which are executed in the operating system environment. The database utilities are summarized below:

 dbvolcreateCreates the database environment.
 dbvolextendExtends the database environment.
 dbvolchangeModifies database volume parameters.
 dblogresetReset the log volume(s) to minimum size.
 dbutilDatabase Maintenance program. This utility is used to maintain Eloquence database security.
DBCREATEdbcreateCreate data sets and indices from database structure.
DBERASEdberaseErases data set entries from all or selected data sets.
DBPURGEdbpurgePurges either specific data set files or the entire database, including the root file and all data sets.
 dbexportCopies data entries from all or selected data sets to ASCII files. Database structural information is not saved.
 dbimportCopies data entries from ASCII files into data sets of a database.
