The HTMLView example

.
This Eloquence example application demonstrates the new controls and the new attributes. The directory contains the Eloquence PROG and DLG file and the image files (JPEG/GIF) which are used by the application.

Installation

Following steps are required to install the Java dialog server along with the example application on your local system.

On the Windows platform
Unpack the file jdlg_X_X_X_X.zip to your drive C. This will create a directory jdlg containing the JAR archive and the example application.

On the Linux platform
Unpack the file jdlg_X_X_X_X.tar.gz and unpack it in a directory (using tar -xzf jdlg_X_X_X_X.tar.gz). This will create the directory jdlg containing the JAR archive and the example application.

How to start the example application

To start the Java Dialog server as an application, please change to the jdlg/lib directory and enter the command below:
 java -jar jdlgS.jar

Dialog server panel After the Java Dialog server has started, the console panel will appear. The menu of the Frame allows to control the operation of the Java dialog server:

  • The "Show Connections" menu item opens a dialog which has a list of all current connections. A connection can be selected and terminated.
  • The "Active Dialogs" menu item opens a Window which displays all active Dialogs. This list is live and changes if a Dialog leaves its DLG DO state or another Dialog gets the DLG DO state. A click on an entry brings the appropriate Dialog to the front of all other windows on your Desktop.
  • The "Reread" item in the menu causes the config file to be reread. Any changed settings become effective immediately (in case of tracing options) or when the next dialog is uploaded.
  • The "Tracing" entry opens the tracing configuration dialog. Please, refer to the Tracing Configuration section in the installation manual for an explanation how you can use it.
  • The "About" menu item shows the information of the JDLG system. It contains the version information which might be useful if you send a report to us.
  • To exit the Dialog System use "Exit" in the menu.
Afterwards change to the directory jdlg/examples/imagecontrols, start eloqcore with the -dlg option like

eloqcore -dlg yourhost
It activates the new connection mechanism as described in Connecting eloqcore to JDLG.

Then LOAD the file ImageExample.PROG and change the line

2100 Basepath$="file:/C:/jdlg/examples/imagecontrols"
to the current directories path where the images are located.

If the LOAD command has been failed, verify that the current directory is an active MSI. Make also clear that in line

1500 DLG LOAD "dialog.dlg"
the MSI is set to a correct value too.

Finally run the example (you may want to RE-STORE it as well) and a window like below should become visible.

Installation on a Web server

In order to install the Java dialog server and the example application on your web server, please follow the steps below:
  • Copy the jdlg.jnlp, the image files and the jdlgS.jar to a directory on your web server e.g. imgexample.

  • Please be aware that the Web Server is configured for the jnlp MIME Type as described in the installation instructions.

  • Set the paths in the jdlg.jnlp file to the paths where it is located on your web server as described in the JNLP section of the installing instructions.

  • Copy the PROG and DLG file to a directory on the machine where the eloqcore process should be executed.

  • Set the Basepath$ variable to your webserver and directory where you have copied the image files to e.g. http://www.yourwebserver.com/imagexample.

  • Access the jdlg.jnlp with your browser. As a result the WebStart tool launches the Java based Dialog System.

  • After the dialog system is initialized start the eloqcore process with the modified ImageExample.PROG program and the -dlg option.

This example shows the usage of the new HTMLView control. Please, refer to its detailed description in the status document.
Following steps are required to use the application:

  • Start the JDLG server as described above.

After a window which looks like the following picture shall appear.

HTMLViewer Example

Functions of the Application

  • The main area of the dialog is the HTMLView control which is the display for HTML text.
  • The single line EditText field contains a string and if you've pressed Enter or have clicked the Show button it will be send to the HTMLView. The string is used as an URL which is set to the control as the next page.
  • The multiline EditText field is an example how to set plain text to the HTMLView.
  • The Add button starts an example which shows how to set dynamically generated text to the view. The generated text contains some links with eloq schema URIs and explains how they interact with JDLG.
  • The Clear button removes all text from the view.
